EuroCham at P4G Summit: Championing Innovation & Sustainability in Vietnam

On 17 April 2025, EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert spoke at the Business Dialogue with Leaders: Public-Private Partnerships for Innovation and Sustainability. The dialogue was part of the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi from 15 to 17 April.

Sustainable Development: A Shared Goal Between Government and Business

At the dialogue, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasised the indispensable role of the international business community in Vietnam’s green transition and sustainable development. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a transparent and supportive environment for foreign investors.

Echoing the Prime Minister’s message, EuroCham Chairman Bruno Jaspaert highlighted that ESG and sustainability should not be overlooked, even amid current turbulence surrounding U.S. reciprocal tariffs. He noted that Vietnam can leverage sustainable development strategies to position itself as a regional leader and differentiate from other investment destinations.

Recommendations for Vietnam

Chairman Jaspaert explained that, to accelerate the green transition, Vietnam should address existing bottlenecks related to local management capacity, access to green funding, and policy limitations. He suggested several strategies to foster investment and innovation in Vietnam’s sustainable development journey:

  • Introduce smart incentives for companies investing in innovation, such as personal income tax exemptions, extended corporate income tax depreciation, and special tax regimes for foreign experts.
  • Reform the education system to develop a skilled workforce ready to drive research and development in sustainability and technology.
  • Establish a clear and transparent legal framework that reduces bureaucratic red tape and avoids inconsistent interpretation of laws at the local level.
  • Update regulations to facilitate the application of innovative technologies.
